Writing Recount Text
In this
sub discussion you will be given step by step processes of writing recount
text. The process of writing recount text is preceded by writing the
orientation, events, and reorientation, and it can be further described as
follows:
Orientation
Orientation
provides the setting and introduces participants. In here, giving the reader /
listener the background information needed to understand the text. (i.e.,who
was involved, where it happened, when it happened).
Example
:
On
Wednesday my student and I went to Jogjakarta.
Events
After
stating the orientation, now you try to make some activities/events where the
activities should be written chronologically. In here there are more than one
activities that you can write. For example :
event 1, event 2, event 3,etc. To make the event chronologically, you
can use chronological connection for example :
·
first ,
·
second ,
·
third,
·
fourth,
·
then,
·
after that,
·
finally,
·
on Tuesday,
·
on Wednesday,
·
on Thursday,
·
etc,
Example
:
On
Thursday we visited the temples in Prambanan.
On
Friday morning we went to Jogja Kraton.
Then we
continued our journey to Borobudur.
We
arrived there at four p.m.
At six
p.m,we came back to the hotel.
In the
evening, we checked out from hotel, then came back to Jakarta by Wisata bus.
Reorientation
After
writing good orientation and chronologically events, now you should also write
a good reorientation which’ rounds off’ the sequence of events or stating
personal comment to the story.
Example
:
Really
it was so wonderful that I promise I want to visit Jogjakarta again next time.
After
contructing the orientation, events and reorientation, these three elements are
further arranged into a recount text. In arranging these elements, we
obviously, have to consider the two additional elements for example : unity and
coherence. Unity is all the supporting sentences develop or discuss the main
idea stated in the topic sentence of the paragraph. Coherence is the paragraph
easy to read and to understand.
The paragraph will be as follows :
Trip
to Jogjakarta
On Wednesday, my student and I went
to Jogjakarta. We stayed at Dirgahayu Hotel which far from Malioboro.
On
Thursday, we visited the temples in Prambanan. There are three big temples, the
Brahmana, Syiwa, and Wisnu temples. They are really amazing.
On Friday morning, we went to Jogja
Kraton. We spent about two hours there. We were lucky because we were led by a
smart and friendly guide. Then we continued our journey to Borobudur. We
arrived there at four p.m, at half past five p.m, we heard an announcement that
Borobudur gate would be closed. At six p.m, we came back to the hotel.
In the evening, we checked out from
hotel, then came back to Jakarta by
Wisata bus. Really it was so wonderful that I promise I want to visit
Jogjakarta again next time.
